NASCAR-kilpailut ovat yksi Amerikan seuratuimmista urheilulajeista televisiossa, ja ainoastaan amerikkalaisella jalkapallolla on enemmin katsojia. Suosio ei rajoitu ainoastaan Amerikkaan sillä kyseiset kisat näytetään yli 150 eri maassa. Kilpailuilla on siis seuraajia ja faneja ympäri maailmaa. NASCAR-kilpailuissa on suuren urheilujuhlan ja karnevaalin tunnelmaa.

Luokat ja radat

Yksi lajin suosion salaisuuksia ovat eri kilpailuluokat. Pääluokan eli sprinttiautojen lisäksi lajissa kilpaillaan myös avolavamallisilla autoilla. Eri kilpailuluokat tuovat kisaan jännitystä ja pitävät katsojien mielenkiinnon yllä. Superbike ja muut moottoripyöräurheilulajit

Superbike on yksi ratamoottoripyöräilyn sarjoista, ja siinä on kilpailtu maailmanmestaruustasolla vuodesta 1988 alkaen. Sarjan koko nimi on Eni FIM Superbike World Championship, ja se lyhennetään usein WSBK. Superbike-sarjan pyörät ovat joko 2- tai 4-sylinterisiä, ja niiden kuutiotilavuus on enintään 1000 cm3. Superbike-pyörissä merkittävää on se, että ne perustuvat sarjatuotannossa oleviin moottoripyöriin.

Vuonna 2007 Superbikeen tehtiin sääntömuutoksia, kun tuohon asti nelitahtipyörien enimmäistilavuus oli ollut vain 750 cm3 – nykyään se on siis 1 000 cm3. Tämän hetken menestyneimpiä Superbike-kuljettajia ovat mm. ranskalainen Sylvain Guntoili, englantilainen Tom Sykes ja italialainen Max Biaggi.

Moto GP

Superbiken lisäksi ratamoottoripyöräilyssä kilpaillaan esim. Motocross- ja Moto GP -sarjoissa. Moto GP kausi onkin täyttä vauhtia käynnissä, ja jo 2000-luvun ajan sarjan kärkisijoja pitänyt italialainen Valentino Rossi näyttää olevan matkalla jo kymmenenteen maailmanmestaruuteensa, sillä hän johtaa pistetilannetta. Jorge Lorenzonin kerroin on kuitenkin selvästi pienempi Betsafessa – Lorenzo 1,55 ja Rossi 3,20. Lorenzo on siis haastajan asemassa ja tämän hetken ennakkosuosikki pistetilanteesta riippumatta. Sarjassa on kuitenkin vielä monta osakilpailua jäljellä, ja odotettavissa on paljon jännitystä, vauhtia ja vaarallisia tilanteita.

Motocross

Superbiken ja Moto GP:n lisäksi kilpaillaan myös Motocross-sarjassa. Motocross, joka lyhennetään usein myös MX on Moto GP:n ja SuperBiken tapaan suosittu moottoripyörien kilpasarja. Tämä moottoripyöräilymuoto on suosittua ympäri maailman, ja siihen kuuluu myös useita alalajeja, kuten esimerkiksi Supercross, Freestyle Motocross sekä hieman tuntemattomampi Minimix. Toisin kuin ratapyöräilyssä, Motocrossissa ovat avainasemassa erilaiset pyörällä suoritettavat tehtävät, ja useimmiten kilpailuissa jaetaan tyylipisteitä nopeuden mittaamisen sijaan tai lisäksi. Motocrossissa kilpaillaan yleensä 50 cc, 65 cc, 85 cc, 125 cc, 250 cc ja 450 cc -kuutiotilavuuksien sarjoissa.

Tunnettuja suomalaisia Motocross-kuljettajia ovat esimerkiksi 1970-luvulla hienon uran ajanut Heikki Mikkola, vuoden 1985 maailmanmestari Pekka Vehkonen, sekä tällä hetkellä sinivalkoisen Motocrossin tulevaisuudenlupaus Kim Savaste. Superbiken, Moto GP:n ja Motocrossin lisäksi moottoripyöräilyssä kilpaillaan myös talvilajeissa, joista tunnetuin on nimensä mukaan jäällä ajettava jääspeedway. Myös sivuvaunullisten pyörien kilpailut ovat suosittuja.

Missä sijaitsee lähin karting-ratasi?

Karting on hyvä laji nousta kuuluisuuteen. Kisoja on viikoittain, joten harjoittelemaan pääsee usein. Jos kuski vain on taitava lajissa, pääsee tämä taatusti etenemään autourheilun saralla. Karting on kuin F1-kilpailut pienoiskoossa: säännöt noudattelevat myös formuloiden vastaavia.

Englannissa karting-sarja jaetaan neljään eri osaan: Gearbox, Senior, Junior ja Cadet. Suurin osa karting-kilpailusta alkaa harjoituksilla, joissa voi todella näyttää taitonsa. Harjoituksissa ajajien tulee kiertää rata tietyssä ajassa, jotta he pääsisivät osallistumaan itse kilpailuun ja lopulta finaaliin. Lewis Hamiltonkin oli luonnollisesti yksi parhaista kartingissa ja nyt hän on yksi F1-sarjan huipuista, joiden nimet jäävät autourheilun ykkösluokan historiaan.

Hamilton näytti, että kaikki voivat päästä huipulle

Lewis Hamilton syntyi varattomiin oloihin. Moni kuvittelee Formula 1 -sarjan kuuluvan virheellisesti vain varakkaille, mutta todellisuudessa menestykseen voi nousta vaatimattomistakin oloista. Hyvän kilpailijan ominaisuudet eivät riipu lompakon paksuudesta.

Hamilton aloitti kilpailemisen kart-kilpailuissa 8-vuotiaana vuonna 1993. Hän oli luonnonlahjakkuus ja alkoi pian voittaa kilpailuja. Karting on loistava tapa aloittaa autourheilu. Itse kilpalajia ei tule sekoittaa huvipuistojen kart-ratoihin, joissa kisailu on leikkimielistä. Todellisissa kilpailuissa taistelu on yhtä kovaa kuin muissakin autourheilulajeissa ja nopeudet nousevat korkeiksi. Kartingissa kisaa käydään samalla voitontahdolla kuin F1-sarjan mutkikkailla radoilla. Moni nykyinen F1-tähti on ponnistanut korkealle juuri karting-radoilla aloitellen; esimerkiksi Hamiltonin taidot nostivat hänet kartingista ensin F3-sarjaan ja sieltä F2-sarjan kautta autourheilun kuninkuuskastiin.

Valaise ja huolla

Autotallin tai säilytystilan valaistus on tärkeä osa harrastusta, johon kannattaa panostaa. Autot ovat toki edukseen oikeassa valaistuksessa, mutta hyvä valo on myös tärkeää auton kanssa työskennellessä. Osa alan harrastajista suosii perinteisiä valaistusratkaisuja, kun taas monet luottavat LED-valaistukseen. Sitä pidetään energiaystävällisenä ja laadukkaana. LED-valaistus tarjoaa lukuisia erilaisia ratkaisuja myös värivalinnan suhteen.

Urheiluautokokoelman ylläpito ei ole perinteisten käyttöautojen huoltamista, joten niiden kiillottamiseen ja puhdistamiseen käytetään usein enemmän aikaa kuin käyttöautojen huollossa. Autot tulee putsata ja siivota säännöllisesti niin ulko- kuin sisäpuolelta. Puhdistus- ja vahausaineiden laatuun on hyvä kiinnittää huomiota, huonolaatuiset tuotteet saattavat vahingoittaa auton pinnoitusta tai sisätilojen nahkapäällysteitä. Ammattilaiset suosittelevat 3M:n ja Mothersin tuotteita.

Kilpa-autojen toiminnasta tulee huolehtia. Jos ne vuotavat, on parempi huomata ongelmat heti, jolloin korjaaminen on helpompaa. Autojen alle voi asetella yöksi sanomalehden, josta on helppo tarkistaa aamulla mahdolliset öljyvuodot. Kilpa-autojen huoltaminen ei ole monimutkaista kunhan tarkistaa ja tekee tarvittavat huoltotoimenpiteet säännöllisesti. Investointikohteista on hyvä pitää huolta, tällöin niiden arvo säilyy mahdollisimman pitkään.
